Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
IPL is not a laser but a light device that uses filters to determine what wavelengths of light are delivered. IPL technology improves the appearance of photoaged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation for face and body.
It targets both pigment (in moles, freckles/blemishes, sun damaged skin, age spots) and hemoglobin in blood vessels (spider veins). A series of IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation helps restore a more youthful appearance without the patient downtime.
The treatment consists of the noninvasive application of intense pulsed light (IPL) to the skin. Generally, five or more treatments, spaced approximately three weeks apart, are required to see results. Treatment is performed as a office procedure following application of an anesthetic cream to the skin. Unlike more invasive procedures, there is no “down time” with IPL treatment so you may resume normal activities immediately.
IPL therapy effectively treats the following conditions:
- Redness and dilated blood vessels of the face, neck, and chest
- Flushing
- Rosacea
- Hyperpigmentation or irregular pigmentation on the face, neck, chest, and hands
- Fine wrinkling
- Coarse skin with large pores
- Lax skin
